Acne/Acne Scarring/Rosacea |
Acne is a very common skin problem. Acne, whether in its mild stage (blackhead/whitehead) or severe form (pustules/nodules/cysts), is a disease of the sebaceous glands caused by clogged pores, decreased sebum production, dead skin cells and the presence of bacteria. Even with mild pimples, instead of the more severe forms like cystic acne, breakouts can affect a person's confidence, sense of well-being, and ability to go out and meet people.
While teen acne is very common, people of all ages can be affected. In fact, it's estimated that 85% of people between the ages of 12 and 24 will suffer some type of acne. Adult acne (hormonal imbalance) is also quite common. The most common areas are the back and neck, although the chest and shoulders can also be problem sites.
Fortunately, there are treatments which help control breakouts. At Clinical Skin Care Center, we use several effective technologies to treat this disorder. Laser technology, PhotoFacial and Microdermabrasion are several treatments proven to reduce acne breakouts. The lasers thermally alter the sebaceous gland’s oil production, reducing oil and bacteria, and reducing severity of breakouts. Dermatologists generally treat severe acne and they can prescribe medication.
Acne scarring can result from an Active Acne breakout and improper treatment. It’s important to treat acne with proper skin care products, such as Jan Marini, before scarring occurs. Acne scars are hard to treat. However, Fraxal Matrix RF is an excellent treatment to reduce the appearance of acne scarring.
Rosacea is an interesting condition, quite different from acne. However, unfortunately for rosacea sufferers, correctly diagnosing this problem is the first step. At Clinical Skin Care Center, we have found that PhotoFacial treatments, done properly, are the best solution to clear redness from the treated area. |

Scars/Stretch Marks |
Stretch marks, or striae, typically appear after rapid growth or weight gain, such as pregnancy or puberty. Their trademark striped appearance can range from reddish and purplish fine lines to the silvery white streaking of scars.
The truth is; Scars will never completely go away. There are new methods that help reduce the size and appearance of scarring. Clinical Skin Care Center offers many solutions for all types of scarring.
Our skin is a seamless organ covering and protecting valuable assets. Any burn, injury, surgery or other trauma to it can cause the formation of scar tissue. The appearance of a scar can be unappealing.
Throughout our lives, we will have experience cuts, scrapes and tears at our skin. Accidents happen. A scar isn't so bad if it's small or in a location easy to conceal. But often you want to minimize the appearance of scars that are not easy to conceal. |
Frequently Asked Questions |
How does scarring happen?
Scar formation is a natural part of the healing process after injury.
Various factors influence how your skin scars. Of course, the depth and size of the wound or incision and the location of the injury are going to impact the scar's characteristics. But your age, heredity, even your sex or ethnicity, will all affect how your skin reacts.
What are the types of scars?
These are several different types of scars including:
- Keloid scars. These scars are the result of an overly aggressive healing process. These scars extend beyond the original injury. Over time, a keloid scar may affect mobility. Possible treatments include surgical removal, or injections with steroids. Smaller keloids can be treated using cryotherapy (freezing therapy using liquid nitrogen). You can also prevent keloid formation by using pressure treatment or gel pads with silicone when you sustain an injury. Keloid scars most often occur on black skin.
- Contracture scars. If your skin has been burned, you may have a contracture scar, which causes tightening of skin that can impair your ability to move; additionally, this type of scar may go deeper to affect muscles and nerves.
- Hypertrophic scars. Raised and red scars that are similar to keloids, but do not breach the boundaries of the injury site. Possible treatments can include injections of steroids to reduce inflammation.
- Acne scars. If you've had severe acne, you probably have the scars to prove it. There are many types of acne scars, ranging from deep pits to scars that are angular or wavelike in appearance. Possible treatments will depend on the types of acne scars you have.
